Curious about Calgary? Although it's not the capitol of the province, it is the biggest city. Nearly one million people live there and thousands of more arrive each year. They're attracted by the plentiful jobs, most of which are in the oil industry. Many Canadians start their careers by working here, spending a year or two on the rigs before moving on to become Guelph real estate agents or teachers in Halifax. However long your time with us will be, you're sure to feel welcomed, as the city is known for the cowboy culture that stems from its long history of agriculture and cattle raising.

One of the things that characterizes Calgary real estate is a proliferation of suburban housing developments. These neighborhoods are traffic calmed and for the most part spacious, with a feel similar to what you might find among Brampton homes for sale. The closer these neighborhoods get to the city center the denser they become, until you have on the other end of the spectrum, the glittering lights and happening night life in the downtown core, where neighborhoods such as Eau Claire offer a variety of high and mid rise apartment and condominium towers to more urban minded home shoppers.

Calgary itself is a city of gentle rolling hills which are the farthest, most gentle reaches of the foothills leading up to the Rocky Mountains. The mountains themselves are a little over 100 kilometers away, but are so large that there are some neighborhoods in the city where you can have them as a backdrop to your picture window. Any Toronto real estate agent would give his left arm to be able to sell a view like that. Also available are some waterfront properties along the Bow and Elbow Rivers, which flow through the city.

The climate, which is hot and dry in the summer and very cold - cold enough that many people have to plug in their cars - in the wintertime, with lots of snow. The snowfall is probably a little less than the Lake Effect snow that convinced you to put up your houses for sale in Bramtpon, but also makes for great skiing nearby. Winter sports like hockey, skating, and skiing are immensely popular here. In the summertime, the city turns its sights more toward cowboy culture sports like rodeos and equestrian.
