There's no doubt about it, real estate in any boom town is always at a premium. For about a decade, that is what people looking for a Calgary house for sale had to face. Sure, there were a lot of jobs available in the city and high paying ones at that, but the cost of living was also incredibly high. The success of the oil industry in particular transformed Cow Town within a few years into one of the major centers of the country, and one with the highest real estate prices too. Even if you were planning to make your house plans yourself, you may have found the price of a lot prohibitive.

Today the real estate picture in Calgary is a little bit different. The building boom that was such a part of the city's landscape has definitely slowed to a trickle over the last two years. This is largely due to the fluctuations in the prices of oil, which are really what Calgary's economy is based on. Lawyers specializing in class action suits in Canada don't have to worry too much about natural resource pricing, but most of the rest of the city does. It's on that foundation that the rest of the economy has been built.

The upshot for buyers looking to get their foot in the door of the market in Calgary for the first time is that there may never be a better time to buy. Real estate professionals are offering better prices as far as their commissions, and this in turn is contributing to the fall in the price you can expect to pay for a house. Just look at initiatives such as the Sutton members program. When buying a house through that company, members can qualify for all sorts of rebates.

Still, there are many who are sceptical at the actual value of a Calgary home even at the lower prices found today. While there are a broad range of economic activities in Calgary contemporary dance studios, communications, and the like) many of those activities still have their roots somewhere in the oil patch. When prices fell to under seventy cents a barrel in the spring of '09, house prices followed suit.

What that means is, housing prices in Calgary are likely to fall again according to the oil industry. This is something that every new home owner should keep in mind; will you be able to get your money back out of the home when it comes time to sell?

Outside economics aside, it's certain that Calgary is one of the best places in Canada to live right now where services are concerned. For sheer availability, it does rival larger centres such as Vancouver and Toronto. Naturopathic clinics and other big city services abound, so you will find services in Calgary to meet your needs.
